Please complete our online application. After you receive a welcome email from us, please respond with updated vaccination records from your veterinarian. Once we receive those, please let us know a good day for you and your pup to come in for a free day of daycare to make sure we’re a good fit for them!
We offer scheduled tours Monday-Saturday from 12pm-2pm. Please contact us today to set up a tour! Please do not bring your dog for the tour.
You should plan to drop off your dog by 9:00 am. We will keep their belongings with us until you pick up later in the day! We will assess your dog by both size and temperament on which play group would be the best fit for them. We will update you at pick up on how your pup did, if we recommend more daycare prior to scheduling any boarding, and what the next steps would be!
Yes we do! We have someone monitoring the dogs overnight, cleaning and sanitizing nightly but not disrupting your pup's sleepover.
Absolutely. We offer baths and nail trims for each client-please speak to our front desk team to schedule your pup's spa day today! (At this time we do not offer hair trimming)
We have very limited space for Personalized Play, at a higher rate. Your dog must still pass a meet and greet with our staff and make sure they're comfortable staying in our facility.
We accept unaltered pups until 6 months of age, after which we require them to have been spayed/neutered.
We accept unaltered pups up and until 6 months of age, after which we require them to have been spayed or neutered. The main reason is that intact dogs are at greater risk of injury from other dogs. In social environment, intact males are often viewed as threats by other dominant dogs. Intact females, whether in heat or not, may be picked on by other female dogs and male dogs will view her as an intact female and will treat her as such.
We do not. For the safety of our staff we do not allow clients to drop off/pick up outside our hours of operation.
We require puppies to have their first two rounds of vaccinations and a negative fecal exam- this age may vary depending on your pups history. (Usually 9-16 weeks)
- DHPP
- Rabies
- Bordetella
- Negative Fecal Exam
Titer protection may be substituted for the distemper and parvovirus vaccinations.
All puppies must have their first two rounds of shots.
Yes! The Barkshire has over 15,000 square feet – one of the largest outdoor areas in metro Detroit – of fenced outdoor play yards. They are divided into five separate fenced areas but often we open up the areas for the different groups to have a huge outdoor play area – even the small dogs! They have some play equipment and lots of room for chasing and zoomies.
Yes! As long as a dog passes the temperament test they can come to The Barkshire for daycare and boarding.
Yes and No. During peak boarding dates (please see the pricing page for peak dates), we require a $152 advance deposit and a two week advance cancellation. The deposit will be refunded if a cancellation is received two weeks ahead of the reserved boarding time. If the boarding reservation is cancelled less than two weeks before the start of the reservation, the deposit is non-refundable. If the reservation is outside of peak times, we do not charge a deposit or cancellation fee.
We offer individual, outdoor 20-minute neighborhood walks for $15 as well as various enrichment activities such as kongs and snuffle mats for an additional charge.
We currently do not offer training but just ask and we will recommend some good trainers that we know.
Yes. Our webcams are on during group play times in the morning and afternoon so that you can see your dog having fun with their friends.
Please bring your dog’s regular food and treats with specific feeding instructions and all medications. We encourage you not to bring toys or beds as we know these are special and sometimes they get damaged if your dog is anxious or misplaced. Please do not bring rawhides.
If your dog becomes ill or injured during their stay, we will contact you and your veterinarian immediately. We have 24 hour access to veterinarian counsel and can inquire on the best course of action. If the best course of action is emergency services, we will transport them to either Blue Pearl or OVRS. If it is not an emergency, we will discuss with you about whether to take them to your veterinarian or the one that we use just around the corner. Our staff is trained in pet first aid and CPR should that be needed.
