MELODY & CRAIG
Owners
Melody and Craig became the owners of The Barkshire in 2020 after nearly a decade of being loyal, frequent clients. They first came to The Barkshire after losing their dog Buck to cancer and their dog Marena was missing him. After touring numerous daycare facilities in the area, they decided The Barkshire was perfect for Marena. When presented with the opportunity to be the owners after the founder, Rita Dunker, decided to retire, it was a no-brainer. They already had a great relationship with the staff and knew the business well. Melody brings Business and Marketing expertise, while Craig brings Legal and Business Finance expertise to The Barkshire. They currently reside in Birmingham with their fur babies Oreo, Gunnar and Liza.
MELANIE
General Manager
Melanie has been a part of The Barkshire family since 2011. She is a Dog Mom to Merlin and Tazzy who are both deaf Australian Shepards. Melanie's strengths in being the General Manager of The Barkshire has been educating herself to make sure each pup who attends The Barkshire is set up for success, whether that be through playtime with friends, enrichment with staff, or recommending the best fit for our pups. Melanie is always willing to talk in depth with you on what works for your pup to give you and your dog, the best experience with us.
HAYLEY
Assistant Manager
Our Assistant Manager Hayley has been with us since 2016. A life-long animal lover, Hayley works hard to make sure your pets are getting top notch care. Hayley has worked in both the Veterinary and Rescue fields but has found a calling in the dog daycare/boarding industry. Hayley shares a home with her Blue Tick Coon Hound Pearl and Bull Terrier, Pontoon.
SHAYNA
Team Lead
Team Lead Shayna has been with The Barkshire since 2019. Shayna loves to be in the action, you can always find her cuddled up with a small dog or out playing in the big yard with the more rambunctious groups of dogs. Shayna has a 2-year-old Brittany Spaniel mix named Flynn who keeps her on her toes.
